Sparks Basketball Inc. is a registered not-for-profit association, operating out of Willetton Basketball Stadium. We operate as a community based, volunteer run basketball club, and try to make everything as easy as possible for our players and their families. Some details below may help as you become aquatinted with how we operate at Sparks Basketball
TEAM CREATION
Sparks teams are created once there are sufficient player names on the Sparks registry, and at least one parent/carer has volunteered to coach the team. Without a parent coach, no team will be formed. Players are then allocated to teams based on their history with Sparks, and appropriate age groups. In the instance you have a complete team and coach who would like to join the club, please get in touch with us directly via email, and we will do our best to accommodate.
TEAM ALLOCATIONS
We run an automated system at Sparks Basketball, where players enter their details to the Sparks registry, and are then allocated to the next available, suitable team. Existing players are placed first, and if there is room, new players are then allocated to teams. Each season, we allocate players to teams based on their previous experience and good behaviour in the Sparks Basketball club, as well as player age and team availability. Unfortunately, not every player who registers with Sparks will be placed on a team, and those which are not, are placed on the wait-list at Willetton Basketball, in the hopes that a placement will become available at another club in the domestic competition.
COACHING
As Sparks Basketball is run solely by volunteers, we ask that parents nominate themselves to coach our teams whenever possible. In the domestic competition which we operate, our main expectations of our coaches is that they provide encouragement and support to all players, and work with our coaching development, so that we can assist whenever possible. TRAINING COURTS
As we operate throughout the Willetton Basketball network of venues, the majority of our training is conducted at Willetton Basketball Stadium,. In some cases, teams are also allocated training times at Melville Recreation Centre, Strikers Recreation Centre, All Saint's College, and other indoor and outdoor venues. Prior to player registration and team formation, we are unable to provide any time and venue information on any training sessions, as courts are allocated based on the specific number of teams we create each season. You will be notified of your training time and day prior to your final payment with the club.
Training courts are allocated to teams based on their age groups, with the younger teams being placed earlier in the afternoon (after school hours), and more senior teams training later in the day. Training courts are not guaranteed to all Sparks teams.
